The Foundling Archive collects experience and perspective.
Our mission is to document and share the knowledge acquired through life experience.
We are mobile history makers and collectors of experience.
We ask ordinary people to share their perspective through conversations with loved ones or, if they wish, us. As we travel to festivals and through suburbs these interviews become a record of a place, time and person. Each new place we go to, we bring the last, creating a chain of experience through the country, connecting us to each other while we document the differences and the unique cultural character of each place or community.
Through our projects and community programmes, in the three short years we have been operating, we have collected and shared over 350 experiences. Each interview is added to the collection. Each place or event becomes a small publication, that is then distributed in local cafes, libraries and at the next place we travel to.
Each project teaches the value of listening to build a more compassionate society.
Each interview provides a perspective -a way of being Australian. We learn can see how each individual contributes to Australia’s social, historical and physical landscape and we form deeper connections to country and to each other.
At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive of experience for future generations.
We have partnered with community organisations and festivals to deliver our projects to: Carlton Festa 2014, Federation Square (Remembrance Day 2014, Home Movie Day 2014), Moreland City Council (Sydney Road Street Party (2014), Contemporary Place Project (2015), Brunswick and Fawkner projects (2016)), City of Whittlesea (Refugee Week 2014), Italian Historical Society (Creating Culture/Defining Diaspora oral history and portraiture project, 2015), White Night 2015.
Welcome anyone who would like to utilise the collection for research or projects to contact us.
